An extraordinary "Kogane-yaki" (Golden-fired) ceramic water jar (Mizusashi) for Japanese tea ceremony, complete with its original signed wooden box (Tomobako), crafted at the Otani Ware Kiln Togei Kaikan.
Otani Ware is a prestigious traditional craft from Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, with over 200 years of rich history. This piece utilizes the unique "Kogane-yaki" technique, where the natural iron content in the clay is drawn to the surface by controlled flames during reduction firing. This process produces a captivating, metallic, smoked metallic luster that shifts elegantly under light. It serves as an impressive tea ceremony utensil as well as a striking decorative centerpiece for modern interiors.
【About the Kiln / Craftsman】
According to the included paper slip, this piece was created under the direction of Sanjiro Harumoto, head of the Otani Ware Togei Kaikan. The studio preserves centuries-old techniques, honoring the harmonious interplay of natural clay and fire.
