Description (English)
This is a set of five "Hidehira-nuri" (Hidehira Lacquerware) lidded bowls, a designated traditional craft from Hiraizumi, Iwate Prefecture.
These bowls feature the distinctive Hidehira style: a striking contrast of red and black lacquer, adorned with the prestigious "Yusoku Hishi" (diamond pattern) and "Genji Gumo" (Genji clouds) depicted in gold leaf. This design is considered highly formal and elegant.
The glossy black lacquer serves as a beautiful backdrop for the vivid vermilion and gold patterns, adding both dignity and brilliance to your dining table.
Shape & Usage:
With a plump, rounded body and a high foot (Kodai), this shape is classified as a "Nimono-wan" (simmered dish bowl) or "Zoni-wan" (New Year's soup bowl). These are considered higher in rank than standard miso soup bowls.
Lightweight and comfortable to hold, they have a gentle texture that feels smooth on the lips. While they are perfect for special occasions like New Year's celebrations (Oshogatsu), they are also durable enough for daily use with soup or simmered dishes.
This set of five makes a stunning addition to any collection or a thoughtful gift for those who appreciate Japanese craftsmanship.
